My platform consists of many things that are not only important to my family, but are especially important to our community and school district. It is my goal to be a meaningful leader and listen to all perspectives, so I can make the most informed decisions as I work for the community. As a School Board, decisions rely on collaboration with other board members and I will be open and consider all points of view.
Communication is critical to being an effective board member. My main goal is to be available to discuss concerns with the community, teachers, and students. Your voices will impact the choices we make as board members. I would like to have monthly coffee talks, virtual and in person when prevailing guidance allows. As a community we need to listen to each other, without judgement. As a board member, I will encourage open dialog between community members and the school board. Being a parent in the district, there have been times where I and others have felt too uncomfortable to speak during school board meetings. I want this to change. Instead of parents venting on social media, I will work to create an environment of openness and transparency.
As Palisades has received an award for being "No Place for Hate," it is important we keep instilling empathy, kindness, and compassion in our students. Nearly 1 out of every 5 students in Bucks County report being bullied on school property (2019 PAYS Survey). As a community, we must always be vigilant with our anti-bullying policy and have the best resources available. We want to continue to make Palisades a safe learning environment for students. Reviewing policies and information from time to time is important to maintaining school safety and a comfortable learning environment. In speaking with parents who have left the Palisades School District, they have raised bullying as a concern. It is important to me that we continue to communicate with parents on this issue.
In 1968, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream: “where little black boys and little black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and little white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers.” I want to work with Palisades School District as a School Board member and work with our communities’ efforts towards this common goal. In addition, it is important that children who are different or who have disabilities have the same opportunity to receive the great education that Palisades has to offer. Equity should be a right for all children. I am committed to make that happen.
